Artist's Comments

Sometimes it's worth to risk a little to make a good photo. I was standing on one rock while shooting this, and the tripod was completely in the sea, with all three legs. I was afraid that I'll stand on something slippery and end in the sea together with my new camera. I wouldn't mind me being wet, but I'd like my new full frame toy to remain dry at least for some time :D :D

Since the coast is facing north I had to stay a little further from it so I don't have any houses in the photo, and the rocks were composed better this way, so I had to risk a bit.

I really love how many colors there are in this photo. The sky was really awesome and the green from the rocks in the shallow sea fits in just fine :)

Location: Arbanija, Island Ciovo, Croatia

Other information:
- HDR processed from 3 different exposures +/-2 stops
- ND400 filter

Nice, one of the most subtle HDR's I've seen.

Jealous of your new toy BTW

Thanks for the comment! :)
I like to use HDR to increase dynamic range of the photo, not to destroy it. Therefore, I want it to be subtle. :)

About the new toy, I'm still not used to it's possibilities and features (cause the jump was pretty big: from Canon 350D to 5D mkII), but the difference is huge. :D

It's a massive leap, good for you. Was it very expensive? The 5D has gone up about £800/900euros over here (UK) since December

Well, it was expensive and the prices increased in December here too. It's even more expensive in Croatia than in other European countries, around 20% up.
But I managed to buy second hand camera that was barely used and it was much cheaper than to go to the store and buy it in regular way. So I decided to buy it, as I was looking for an upgrade anyway.

Did you buy new lenses too? I heard/raed you need L series lens to get the best results.

I cannot say I prefer them over horizontal, but I have more of them. Sometimes I can capture more with the vertical shot. This one in particular would be boring and unbalanced horizontal, as I would then have houses on the left, and empty sky and sea on the right.
I decide when I see the scenery, but it turns out that vertical shots are more often in my gallery.

Which orientation do you prefer?

I'm aware of that and it's true.
I've bought 24-70 f2.8L few months ago, but back then I did not know I'll buy a full frame camera so soon, but I was still aware that the good lens are essential, even on cheaper cameras. Today, I'm even more glad I did that.
Now I'm left with that lens and I have Canon 50mm f1.8 and 100mm macro. I have to sell 10-20 mm Sigma and some other EF-S lens I don't need anymore. Next investment must be good telephoto L lens and something wider than 24 mm.
Expensive hobby... :D :D
